After a tough start at the 4A Golf State Championship in Grand Junction Colorado, Mullen’s Girls team rebounded nicely to finish up the season.
"No one really counted us in due to our play on Tuesday and we played lights out on the back 9 today." Head Coach Kate Walker. The team shot a total of 239 on day 2 which moved the Mustangs from 4th place overall to 2nd! Mullen fell only 14 strokes behind 1st place Erie, and 3 strokes ahead of defending State Champs Discovery Canyon.
Coach Walker continued to describe how good the competition was, "This was the deepest field I have seen in my 2 decades of coaching. I love seeing the depth in the girls game growing because it is great for our sport and these young ladies to keep getting better every time they are out there”.
Sofia Choi finished with two birdies in a row to score a 72 the second day. Taking home 2nd place in the individual event. This was Sofia’s 3rd time taking home second at State, what a great accomplishment that is!
Junior Kaitlin Zingler finished with a 76 and finished 9th individually.
Freshman Sammy Yates shot a 91 and finished 26 individually.
Freshman Riley Sullivan shot a 98 and finished 45 individually.
Mullen’s Athletic Director, Melynda Brown, was with the team and expressed how proud she was. “It was remarkable to see our students compete with the top talent’s in the state. While walking the links with our student athletes, it was a reminder to me how dedicated these young people are and how much self confidence one can gain from playing sports.”
The Future is bright for the Mullen Mustangs Golf Team!
